Our
hike starts with a test pace over the first 20 minutes to make sure everyone can
keep up with the group, if you cannot keep up you must return to the trailhead
and wait. The hike to the lava flow takes between 1.5 hours to 2 hours covering
a distance of 3 to 4 miles and a similar time to return. (6-8 miles) On
occasions spectacular Pali (hillside) flows require an additional hours hiking
each way but will provide once in a lifetime views of lava. Photographers are
encouraged to keep up with the group, as there are thousands of tempting scenes
on the way out which pale by comparison with the flowing Lava. This is a must do
hike while you are in Hawaii
and will leave you with memories that you will treasure for your
lifetime.
