Volcano National Park and Lava Hiking

Description/Overview:

Join us on this tour, and view Kilauea Volcano National Park and Madam Pele (the fire goddess) up close, an experience not soon to be forgotten.

Stops along the tour include:

Upper National Park which include:

  • Sulphur Banks
  •   Steam Vents
  • Jagger Museum
  • Observatory Halemaumau Pit Crater
  • Kilauea Caldera
  • Thurston Lava tube
  • Descend the Chain of Craters road to the point where the road is cut by Lava flows.

Our hike starts with a test pace over the first 20 minutes to make sure everyone can keep up with the group, if you cannot keep up you must return to the trailhead and wait. The hike to the lava flow takes between 1.5 hours to 2 hours covering a distance of 3 to 4 miles and a similar time to return. (6-8 miles) On occasions spectacular Pali (hillside) flows require an additional hours hiking each way but will provide once in a lifetime views of lava. Photographers are encouraged to keep up with the group, as there are thousands of tempting scenes on the way out which pale by comparison with the flowing Lava. This is a must do hike while you are in Hawaii and will leave you with memories that you will treasure for your lifetime.
